Carn Brea

The castle at Carn Brea with the sea at Porthtowan in the distance. The castle was built in the 15th century as a hunting lodge and has been a restaurant for at least the past 30 years. The same owners but has been closed for some years on and off. Currently open and it seems to offer a sort of French / Indian fusion. I'll look at reviews. OK here goes: www.google.es/search?q=carn+brea+restaurant&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwim49Tt7Z3-AhVTQ0EAHUT9CU8Q7xYoAHoECAkQAQ&biw=1252&bih=556&dpr=1.09) Sight and sound: A favourite Beethoven piano sonata, expertly analysed by Andras Schiff. www.youtube.com/watch?v=wk-iqxqixhY&t=255s

From Carn Brae to Carn Marth, near Redruth. Between 300 and 150 years ago this was one of the most industrialized places on the Planet. You wouldn't know it now! (Although one old chimney-stack is still just visible in the valley to the right).

Recently a gatepost but perhaps a menhir in ancient times? The jury is still out on the question.

On the left, possibly a menhir (standing stone) once, and certainly used as a gatepost more recently.

Built in 1836 to Lord Francis Basset, Baron de Dunstanville, a tin 'mine owner who was revered by his employees' ... apparently.
