Australian Pelicans
These are the only breed of pelican in Australia and are found across the continent, including the normally dry inland areas if there has been good rain.
Narooma bridge
The old lifting bridge at Narooma. At the far end, between the red and green markers, there is a section which lifts by tilting, counterbalanced by the concrete section above. There's no shortage of fences here!
Happy Fence Friday and best wishes for the weekend, everyone.

Southern Right Whale
My recent images have had some references to whale watching . Whales migrate up the eastern coast of Australia in August to calve in warmer waters, returning to the Antarctic area about November. This Southern Right Whale (Eubalaena australis) apparently calved in our local bay, causing quite a degree of local excitement. More images in the PiPs, also a long shot of a Humpback Whale breaching offshore.

Scraped lines
For Macro Mondays topic #253 18 April 2022.
Conceptual shot for ipernity "Macro Mondays" group topic (translation from German) "Stripes Abraded. They come in the form of colourful stripes, sanding marks or wear and tear...".
Whale watching?
An improvised bench at a great spot for whale watching. Eden is famous for its whaling in earlier days (thankfully now finished) and now is popular for watching the annual whale migration. The PiP shows the view from the same spot. A Happy Bench Monday to all.
Toward New Zealand.
Looking eastward from Eden across the Tasman Sea, next stop New Zealand. Back in the 1800s, this was prime whale catching territory (thankfully no more).
In the rock pool
It may look obvious in the photo, but this crab was remarkably hard to spot in the rock pool among the coloured rocks. A little online searching tells me it is a Purple Swift-footed Shore Crab (Leptograpsus variegatus), found in southern and sub-tropical Australia and the Indo-Pacific. Best viewed large.
'The Gong' beach and fence
As I noted with my previous posting, Wollongong is often known locally as "The Gong". This is the main Wollongong beach at dawn, looking southward toward Port Kembla. In the surf behind the fence, there are a number of early morning surfers and a fishing boat at far left (viewing large may be helpful).
Happy Fence Friday and best wishes for the weekend, everyone.
Sunrise at 'The Gong'
Just to prove that (very occasionally) I do rise early enough to take sunrise images. This is part of the harbour breakwater at Wollongong (often known by locals simply as "The Gong").
