At sea
Looking across Wollongong Harbour toward some anchored shipping. The large ship with the red paint is a car carrier named "Polaris Highway". The old structure behind the foreground yacht once was the pivot for a jib crane used for shipping cargo, when this was a working port. The VW Kombi is a bonus. Maybe best viewed large.
Your choice of the fences, and I'll wish everyone a safe and enjoyable weekend after a Happy Fence Friday.
Flying Fox wings
A set of images of Australian Grey-headed Flying Foxes stretching their wings while at rest and flying over. Getting good flying shots between the trees is tricky as such flights are usually brief and very random. These are Australia's largest bats, with a wingspan of up to 1 metre. Best viewed large.
Flying Foxes
These are Australian "Grey Headed Flying Foxes" (Pteropus poliocephalus) , actually a species of fruit bats, which have again taken residence in a park in town - despite the local Council's efforts to persuade them to camp in other places.
There are many thousands of them (see also PiPs) here, probably a large proportion of the total number, as the species is now are listed as "Vulnerable" , largely as a result of our very extensive forest fires a few years ago. They are Australia's largest bats and live on fruits and pollen, so they migrate seasonally with food sources.

Massed Flying Foxes
You may need to view this large to see the many Grey-headed Flying Foxes (Pteropus poliocephalus) which have again taken residence the trees in a park in town - despite the local Council's efforts to persuade them to camp in other places. These are Australia's largest bats and grow to a weight of about 1 kg and a wingspan of about 1 metre. Largely because of Australia's recent disastrous fires, these are now listed as "Vulnerable".
The Water Gardens
In our little town there is a natural wetland which has been turned into a park, known as "The Water Gardens". It is a pleasant nature reserve and is where I took my previous image of the duck.
I'll be away for a few days, so will take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Fence Friday, followed by a safe and enjoyable weekend.
Hybrid duck
Mallard Ducks have been introduced to Australia and apparently interbreed with the native Pacific Black Ducks.
Well protected bench
At the Front Shrine of the Nan Tien Temple (see previous). Nearby is a large incense burner (PiP) and the Shrine itself (just inside) is in the second PiP.
Happy Bench Monday, everyone, and have a good week.

Cactus trio
The Zygocactus is flowering profusely. These also go by the name of Christmas Cactus, which may be appropriate in the Northern Hemisphere, but here in the south we're rapidly heading into winter. :-) Looks best on black.
Front Shrine of Nan Tien Temple
The Front Shrine of the Temple is also known as the Great Compassion Hall. To the right is the Dining Hall, while to the left is the Information Centre. Best viewed large.
Happy Fence Friday everyone, and wishing you a safe and enjoyable weekend.
