Bermagui Bench

Best viewed large. The mountain in the background is now known by its original Aboriginal name of Gulaga - when Captain Cook mapped the east Australian coast he named it Mt Dromedary. Happy Bench Monday and have a good week, everyone.

Bush Pea

From my books, it appears this Australian native flower is known as "Wreath Bush Pea" or "Pultenaea tuberculata" for those who prefer botanical names. I took these images a few months ago, then promptly mislaid the memory card! :-)

Happy Fence (Fishing) Friday

Game fishing boats awaiting hire in the boat harbour at Bermagui on the NSW south coast. Bermagui has been very popular for deep water offshore game fishing for many years. I'm afraid my hoped-for tour to capture more silo art has had to be deferred. The first major stop on my trip was to visit family in Melbourne, but there I became a covid contact - and it seemed prudent to defer the silo art trip until later. (I've since tested clear of covid). Happy Fence (Fishing) Friday, have a great weekend everyone.

Silo art - Barraba NSW

Over recent years, there has been an explosion of large street art in Australia. In particular, many country towns have found that having such artworks on their grain silos, water tanks and similar structures brings tourists and business to the area. This was the first silo art that we had seen, completed only at about the time of our travel (during a time of drought). It shows a water diviner, searching for groundwater, with an L shaped stick in each hand. The idea of divining is that, as the diviner traverses the area he is searching, the sticks move if affected by the nearby presence of water. Best viewed large. The artist was Fintan Magee. I'm about to head off for travels interstate, partly to catch up with more of these silo artworks. With that thought, I'm likely to be largely offline for the next week or so. Best wishes and stay safe, everyone.

Lord Howe lagoon

Lord Howe Island has the world's most southerly coral reef and lagoon, courtesy of the warm current flowing southward in the Tasman Sea.

Silver wattle

For Macro Mondays Group, topic 248, 14 March 2022. Set subject: "Signs of spring" In my half of the world, spring is not at this time of year. When it does arrive, it's generally considered to be epitomised by the flowering of the Wattle trees. This is from Silver Wattle (Acacia dealbata) .

Lord Howe bench

Another Lord Howe Island image. I'd been there many years previously (see my album "Flying Boat Days") and afterwards my lovely wife Pauline had always wanted to visit. I'm so glad that we finally made a trip together there in late autumn of 2017, as Pauline was taken from us a year ago yesterday. I feel this is a very timely image for Happy Bench Monday.
