Bern – Botschaft USA

Seit den frühen 50er Jahren war der Sitz der US-Botschaft in Bern an der Jubliläumsstrasse in einer Villa inmitten eines Wohnquartiers. Nach 9/11 waren die USA mehr auf Sicherheit bedacht, und so wurde auch der Sitz der Botschaft in Bern infrage gestellt. Bei einem allfälligen Terroranschlag wären auch umliegende Privathäuser gefährdet gewesen. Der Standort entsprach nicht mehr den erhöhten Sicherheitsbestimmungen. [SWI]
Anfang 2007 zog die Botschaft in das ehemalige Versicherungsgebäude der Berner Allgemeinen Versicherungs-Gesellschaft an der Sulgeneckstrasse. Das Gebäude wurde 1954/55 von der Architektengemeinschaft Zeerleder & Wildbolz mit Georges Thormann, Bern erbaut.
Der Bau bietet Platz für Büros mit über hundert Arbeitsplätzen! Und der Botschafter hat noch eine eigene Residenz, die sich in einer Villa gleich hinter diese Gebäude befindet.

You won't believe this but it's true.. back in the 70s..my mate was in the R.A.F.. and he had a mate in the American air force.. we both went to visit him in R.A.F Chicksands an American air base. in Bedfordshire, . we socialised in the bar and stayed on base for most of the day.. before it was realised that we shouldn't be there.. and we two were 'asked' to leave.. by gun equipped security.. enjoyed the day though !...... Dj.

Berny, ich habe sofort mein Handy ausgeschaltet und bin kreuz und quer durch ein paar Seitengassen, unter Benutzung von nur mir bekannten Hinterhöfen, davongezogen; und habe unterwegs natürlich noch ein paar Mal die Kleidung gewechselt! ;-))

Hab mir grad mal die Villa vom Botschafter angeguckt - macht scho was her und man kann tatsächlich gut reinzoomen, hätt ich gar nicht gedacht!

Den Song hör i mir später nomal genauer an - aber (woher hast du das gewusst?) Campari Soda würd i jetzt au nehmen und aufm Balkon "schlürfen", der Frühling is hier! ;-D

Aber die Botschaftsresidenz liegt gleich dahinter in einer schmucken Villa mit einer super Aussicht.

Interesting. Myself, I've always considered fifties architecture in CH ugly and boring, and I can't say I have any nostalgia for it.

Sarah, ja, in den 50ern ist sicher auch viel Hässliches entstanden. Der Bau hier wurde gezielt für eine grosse Vesicherungsgesellschaft gebaut. Eigentlich schade, denn die Aussicht von da ist fantastisch.
Die Botschaftsresidenz liegt gleich dahinter und kann auf der Website, oder ► HIER besichtigt werden.
