Widgeon & other water fowl Cuckmere Haven - 14.3.2016

Widgeon & other water fowl Cuckmere Haven - 14.3.2016
Regrettably my zoom lens isn't powerful enough to get a closer view, but, blown-up, it is possible to identify the bulk of the birds as Widgeon. The three waders in the foreground could be Godwits. We have had Curlews in the past but the beaks are too straight for them.

There were two of these groups of Widgeon, as well as loads of gulls as you can see from neighbouring photos. The main group of Canada Geese was probably a bit further up the valley. I got a even more indistinct shot of a couple of Grey Herons and a Little Egret standing around watching all the other birds mill around. The land between me and the main river, in its 19th century 'cut' isn't accessible, but there is a pond or lagoon behind the shingle beach, which often has a wider range of wildfowl, although it does change from year to year, according to the weather up north. So I must get round there before they all decide to head home and leave the valley to the Little egrets and Herons.
