Celebrate Cuckmere
Folder: South coast counties
Photographs by Phil Sutters taken in the Cuckmere Valley & Haven since April 2009. This set was offered as a small contribution to the exhibition and events at Cuckmere Haven and in Seaford between 10th & 19th June 2011. Many of the images appear in a format suited to the greetings cards I make and sell for local charities. More information about this event can be found at www.celebratecuckmere.c…

Cuckmere WW2 war memorial
|
|
The text is that which is inscribed on the bronze plaque. It is not apparent when the cairn and plaque were placed there, but it must have been since Leslie Edwards' death in 2004 that the plaque was installed.
There seems to be some debate about the authenticity of the report on which this memorial is based. There does not seem to be official recognition of this event.

This was a very mixed flock of birds - mainly Black-backed and Herring Gulls, with Magpies and Rooks wandering in and out. The Shelduck were nearer Friston Forest. The Curlews are not visible at all in this shot and are not very distinct in a closer shot of this group, but I have seen them here this year for the first time. However this is more about how the valley looks at this time of year. There were sizeable numbers of Canada Geese out of shot to the left.

Although they look quite menacing, especially in black & white, the clouds were moving fairly slowly and there was little wind at ground level most of the time. In the hour and a bit I was there, a couple of light snow showers came across briefly and the odd shaft of sunlight lit up the landscape.
