Thank you, Sylvain. I think it may be a young male, as the head feathers are fluffy. The English common name is Reed Bunting.

I'm not sure, that was a simple suggestion. I 'm not an ornithologist :-)

I have looked in my small pocket reference book and the features do all match - the dark head with the white collar - the speckled breast and the dark and light brown wing markings. It likes marshy surroundings and the Ouse Estuary Nature Reserve is marshy in the Winter and Spring seasons. So I think that you have a good identification.

I think your first thoughts are correct Phil.
