A young male Reed Bunting - Ouse Estuary Nature Reserve - Denton - Sussex - 17.3.2016

A young male Reed Bunting - Ouse Estuary Nature Reserve - Denton - Sussex - 17.3.2016
My first thought was that this is a Sparrow - perhaps a young one given its fluffy head - but the dark head doesn't seem to fit a Sparrow's appearance and the speckled feathers look more like Pipits' markings. Any thoughts?
18.3.2016 - This little bird has almost immediately been identified as a Reed Bunting.

Ecobird, John FitzGerald, , have particularly liked this photo

Thank you, Sylvain. I think it may be a young male, as the head feathers are fluffy. The English common name is Reed Bunting.

I'm not sure, that was a simple suggestion. I 'm not an ornithologist :-)

I have looked in my small pocket reference book and the features do all match - the dark head with the white collar - the speckled breast and the dark and light brown wing markings. It likes marshy surroundings and the Ouse Estuary Nature Reserve is marshy in the Winter and Spring seasons. So I think that you have a good identification.

Thanks, Carol. The little bird stayed in view for quite a while, so I was able to get a clearer shot of him than the other birds I photographed at the reserve. Have an enjoyable weekend.
