The Swan Whisperer

The Swan Whisperer
Taken at Emsworth Harbour, Hampshire. This is Gordon who feeds the swans twice a day...........he's been doing it for many years and they seem to love him. He's fully authorised to do this by the council and wears a uniform jacket with the words Swan Welfare Volunteer.

trester88, Eunice Perkins, Annemarie, Ronald Losure and 10 other people have particularly liked this photo

They always attract a crowd of on-lookers at feeding time and yes, the gulls don't stand a chance!

Glad you like this one Judite.........many thanks.

You're quite right Güni...........the gull doesn't stand a chance of getting any food :-)))

Apparently, this man has been feeding the swans twice a day for many years and the swans all seem to love him, even the youngsters. It's lovely to watch how they interact with him.

Glad you like the photo my friend...........and thanks for your nice comments.

Have a lovely evening........best wishes, Keith.

His love of birds, but presumably also the twice-daily meal, allows him to forge a close bond with the swans. Very interesting and beautifully shown, Keith.

There's a lot of trust between the swans and Gordon. He must be a very contented individual to have this lifestyle.

Few things are more satisfying than the interaction between humans and animals. I feel sorry for the seagull watching the scene...well, there's always a nearby dunghill to feed on.
By the way, the swans should know that feeding time is an hour earlier with the time change.

It's really fascinating to watch how he interacts with the swans Anton and apparently he's being doing it for years.

You're right about the gull...........it doesn't stand a chance of getting fed!

I hope they worked out the clock's changing, otherwise they'll have been waiting for breakfast for a white. :-))

I'm pretty sure that they get fed specialised swan pellets Isabel, at least that's what it looks like. I've also seen him feeding them garden peas and lettuce, which is also good for them. Definitely NO bread..!!

He's been feeding them for many years apparently and they all seem quite happy to interact with him, even the ones with cygnets.

Quelle belle photo et quelle majesté ces cygnes. (sont-ils toujours la propriété du Roi d'Angleterre ?) Ce Gordon a un bien sympathique job.La mouette à l'arrière plan semble bouder. On peut la comprendre.

Technically, it is true that the Monarchy can claim ownership of all mute swans found in open waters in the UK, not all swans. Nowadays, in real life, this prerogative only applies to mute swans on certain parts of the River Thames.

All swans are a protected species in the UK.

The seagull is only sulking because it isn't getting fed :-)))
