Port Gamble, Washington

Port Gamble, Washington
This week's SSC challenge: "History"

This week features a trip to the historic mill town of Port Gamble

Built in 1853 it is one of the oldest towns in Washington state and actually predates Washington becoming a state in 1889. All the houses and buildings in the town are well over a hundred years old and were fashioned after a town in Maine, where the founders originated, giving the town a unique personality.

This is St. Paul's Church which is no longer used for weekly services, but you can still be married here if you choose. A couple of our son's friends got married here last year. The two Redwood trees that stand next to it are easily as old as the church and may even be older.

Carly Simon from her debut album "Carly Simon" (1971) (My favorite song about marriage.)

Yes, I guess the founders were wanting to have something of "home" in their new home. It's a neat, little town and has a cool, old cemetery too. I will post more pics in the coming days. Thanks, Val. :)

Interesting that town was modelled after one in Maine - that's quite fascinating! I love the sun peaking through the tree!
