Perils of autofocus

You'd think that, after years of using autofocus, I would be better at using it. But, no, I keep getting caught by its traps.

And as soon as I took this picture, the starling disappeared.

He'll be back no doubt. But all winter we saw no starlings in our yard and it is only yesterday and today they've come around. And both days I got no good picture.
