two of six

We've had between two and six deer yarded up in the area this winter. Usually it's a herd of four; two adult does with this year's young, but at times all six will wander through the pasture. They've been loving the low snow pack that's been allowing them to forage for acorns under the big oaks. The one to the left fascinates me with its color - I don't know that I've ever seen such a dark colored deer before. At dusk she almost looks black against the snowy backdrop.

As I was taking this photo a strong wind blew the snow out of the tree tops and across the field, creating a wonderful hazy quality to the scene. I can't wait to stand in my living room and look out on this view every morning.

snug as a bug

Fargo actually spends time in this barn! I have the bug curtains up, and he likes to peek out of them at the weather. Flea is happily out of the weather inside, where the shavings are thick and the wind is blocked.

Suddenly, a barn.

It's almost done...almost! Weather and time were not on my side, so the finishing touches will have to wait for spring. BUT. The mules are at their final home ever, they each have a stall, and they've settled in just fine. My poor girls, still patiently waiting for a home of their own. At least we're all together!
