Honest Ed's, 2010

Honest Ed's, 2010
Toronto. My favourite moment in Ed's was seeing a group of men in Mao jackets being escorted past a display of backlit Last Suppers. They had clearly been overwhelmed by the range of Ed's stock. The store was opened in 1948 by Ed and Anne Mirvish and closed in 2016. Even when I was a tiny child I thought the store was crowded, so you can imagine how it seemed when I was older.

The PiP at top left shows a longer view of thw same elevation, with some of Ed's typical signs.

Ruebenkraut, Andrew Trundlewagon, oHo, Paolo Tanino and 7 other people have particularly liked this photo

I agree, Stephan. Whether I act honestly is unfortunately another question.

A wonderfully colourful sign John..............I bet it once looked even better when I was all lit up in the dark.

I thought the name of the store seemed familiar and when I clicked on the PiP I found I'd seen and commented on it before. It was nice to have another look though :-)

It looked spectacular, Keith. Here's a link to a shot of it at night:

It was quite the place altogether, Keith. When you lined up to pay you saw credit cards from every country in the world.

Same old story, Gabi. The land had become extremely valuable. And Ed and Anne's son David, who now runs the company, was more interested in the extensive theatrical production side of their business.

I looked to the EXIF - and yes, there is a hint of KodaChrome in these pictures :-)
It's a billboard facade (don't know if this term exists)

I haven't checked the editing details myself, Otto (I'm on my phone), but I often use a mild cross-processing effect, which may be partly responsible for the Kodachrome look. I'll check when I'm back on the computer. Billboard facade seems a perfectly legitimate term to me, and an appropriate one here.

Well, it's a puzzle. I didn't do any cross-processing, I didn't increase the vibrancy, and white balance was set to auto, which would be daylight, I suppose I could have changed the white balance without it being recorded in the history, though..

thanks, John for checking.

Then this filmic look is probably baked in the CCD-sensor... I like the rendering - it's beautiful!
