Waverley

Waverley
Another example of the architectural aesthetic of my new neighbourhood. This is Waverley, built for Charles F. Goodhue in the 1880s. The original architect was Capt. Hamilton Tovey, a Briton who was Goodhue's uncle, but the plans were extensively modified by local architect George F. Durand. It is now a retirement home.

Charles's father George was quite the lad. Here's a link to an article about him from the Dictionary of Canadian Biography:

This is probably best viewed on black. Type Z to see if you agree.

It's owned by my landlord. When the tine comes maybe I could get a special rate.

Several of the older grand houses have survived here, Esther. And many grand churches of the period. Actually, this house and Idlewyld are on Grand Avenue.

A great house here in a very traditional style. Looks like it makes a fine retirement home and I do hope that the staff are as good as the fabric here. Very well captured.
Incidentally, I have a relative who lives in London Ontario too so its nice to see shots from his home town here.

Thanks, Herb. The pre-WWII parts of this city are highly attractive, but there has been so little sun that I haven't taken many photos. There's sun today but it's coming through haze, so it's not your usual winter quality.

Another lovely SW Ont yellow brick home. I really don't know why yellow bricks are so rare here in the East; it's what I love best about visiting the SW, all the churches, town halls, houses with them... :)
