Model shoot

Model shoot
The dog appeared to be a professional model. S/he followed this pose up with a runway walk. His/her trainer/wrangler is behind the lamppost.

That's the doggie fountain at William Berczy Park in Toronto in back. There are two more views of it in the notes over the basin. Our model here is the only real dog in the photo.

Fred Fouarge, Diane Putnam, Gisela Plewe, Will S. and 9 other people have particularly liked this photo

A sheepdog of some sort, like a Sheltie. I've watched them run in agility trials - very fast, but not always accurate. And watched them herd sheep in Scotland recently. Fascinating to see the small puppies slink along the ground with bellies touching it, imitating the older dogs.

Unfortunately there are so few sheep in Toronto, Bob, so this one has been forced to get by on his or her looks.

Border collie, probably. Wicked smart and they love to herd sheep, people, or anything that can be herded. Not a good apartment dog.

Unless you keep sheep in your apartment, of course, Sarah.

And here I thought it was called doggie fountain because it was meant for dogs to use. (And then come running out all wet and shake themselves next to you, with a grin on their face.)

Canadian dogs are too polite to do that, Sarah.

Ha, ha..............love this one John. I wonder what the photos will be used for.........perhaps a dog food advert?

I was a bit puxxled by that, Keith. There were three photographers all taking shots. Of course maybe one was a pro.(i'd bet on the one in the green coat) and the others just seizing an opportunity. I've seen a couple of fashion shoots in this park -- a variety of urban backdrops and good light.

It looks like an Australian Kelpie to me, John. Those dogs around the fountain certainly are convincing!

Thanks, George. Well, at least there's a consensus that the dog is some kind of sheepdog. While the fountain was going up I was afraid that it was going to end up being excruciatingly twee, but it ended up colourful and and enjoyable instead. It's credited to Claude Cormier, who designed it as part of his redesign of the whole park (it needed to be redesigned because there were too many trees in the small park, and they were starving each other). The park is certainly livelier now,

Reminds me of when we saw all those puppies when I visited Toronto. I wish I had seen that fountain though.

John FitzGerald club has replied to Brandon Bartoszek
Right -- the puppies on University College lawn. They'd go well here. The fountain wasn't finished then. Probably not even started, so you didn't miss it. Worth seeing on a second visit. The square it's in is quite interesting -- a wide range of styles of building from a span of over 100 years, including Toronto's only surviving iron-fronted buildings -- the rest burned down in a fire in 1904 that destroyed much of downtown.

The landscape architects were in fact Claude Cormier + Associés from Montreal. Cormier is Toronto-trained, though.
