Toronto-Dominion Centre
|
|
|
|
The building is the TD Bank Tower (Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Bregman + Hamann Architects, 1967) in Toronto. It is one of seven building that constitute the Toronto-Dominion Centre; three of them are by Mies and three more are in this style. The three buildings by Mies are the last of his North American period. This is the world HQ of TD Bank (aka Toronto-Dominion Bank and TD Canada Trust).

It's the Pits!
|
|

Christie Pits, Toronto. Toronto Maple Leafs at home in the Intercounty Baseball League, a sandlot league in Central and Southwestern Ontario. Since 2009, when this game was played, I have lost my notes about who the opponent was. The Leafs are in the field here, and I still remember that they won.
In 1909 the city converted an old sandpit at the corner of Bloor and Christie and called it Willowvale Park. Everybody else called it Christie Pits, though, and in 1983 the city finally gave in and renamed it Christie Pits Park.

The sculpture is Sunlife by Sorel Etrog.

It was dark today so I re-edited an old photo.
The mural is by Nunca (2009). I fear it may be covered up by a building going up on the parking lot, but don't really know if it will be or not.
Update, September 2018: The mural wasn't covered up; it was destroyed. The building it was on was torn down to make way for the new building.

New City Hall (1965) in the background. It is usually attributed to Viljo Revell, but he thought his colleagues Heikki Castren, Bengt Lundsten, and Seppo Valjus should also be credited.
Billions Cobra at the Toronto Polish Festival

Canadian Pacific and I took our cameras to the Toronto Ukrainian and Polish Festivals today. Here Billions Cobra charms the crowd at the Polish Festival with his fire whip act, classic and excellent busking. As you can tell from the smiles on people's faces, his patter is pretty good, too.
If you click on it and view it big you notice more interesting things about the people, I think..

Toronto is still light-deprived, and I haven't had much time to take photographs, so here's another old one, from 2013.
Sun and a chance to shoot photos forecast for tomorrow.
