Bridge to Great Bernera

The bridge, built in 1953, links the Isle of Lewis to the Island of Great Bernera (Great Bearnaraigh), one of the islands in Loch Roag. On the day it opened 4000 people gathered to cross it.

Thank you very much Diana. The owner of the cottage we stayed in left us some supplies that included eggs from Great Bearnaraigh and it piqued our interest when we came across the road to it. The bridge must have made an enormous difference to the islanders. Have a great weekend

Terrific composition Carol with a great perspective and light, especially the reflections on the water. I love the way the white of the bridge contrasts beautifully with the almost black of the water below. The road leading off over the hills invites further exploration of this wonderful landscape.

Is the Bridge a single carriageway Carol, two way traffic at the far end or is it simply the angle .
