Herbststimmung - Autumn mood

Im Bild die auffällig gefärbten Herbstblätter von Acer freemanii, einer natürlich vorkommenden Ahornhybride, die aus einer Kreuzung zwischen Acer rubrum (Rot-Ahorn) und Acer saccharinum (Silber-Ahorn) entstanden ist. Wilde Exemplare finden sich im östlichen Nordamerika, wo sich die Elternarten überlappen. Die Art ist nach Oliver M. Freeman vom U.S. National Arboretum benannt, der 1933 A. rubrum mit A. saccharinum hybridisierte. Das Herbstlaub ist auffallend orange-rot. Acer freemanii, Freeman maple or Freeman's maple, is a naturally occurring hybrid maple that is the result of a cross between Acer rubrum (red maple) and Acer saccharinum (silver maple). Wild specimens are found in eastern North America where the parent species overlap. The species is named for Oliver M. Freeman of the U.S. National Arboretum who hybridized A. rubrum with A. saccharinum in 1933. The fall foliage is a striking orange-red. It has many commercially available cultivars and is frequently used as a street tree. The photo was taken on the former grounds of the Würzburg National Horticultural Show 2018 in Würzburg.
