Mountaineers Rule #10

"Be prepared for the worst case!"
You know the movie "127 hours"? It began with a fine day, and it ceased with an self-cutted arm - but alive! www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlhLOWTnVoQ
So, whenever you hike within the mountains, ALWAYS keep with you:
- a first aid kit
- a rescue blanket (golden metallized film, very lightweigt, very helpful)
- blister blatches
- magnesia tablets (against convulsions, take it early enought, but not too much!!!)
- NOVALGIN (forget IBU, when you have great pain as consequence of a severe crash)
(all together is only a small package, not heavy)
NEVER go alone without telling a friend, where you go and when you'll be back! NEVER! (It's also no good idea, if you go as a couple. Who knows, what will happen to you?)
FORGET your SMARTPHONE!
(I really like my apps. But do you think, you are able to manage that little computer, hanging in a cliff with severe violations? You're a dreamer, my friend!)
Reanimate an old 'normal' mobile phone (or buy a new one) with a classical keybord! Put a prepaid SIM card into it. Save the call number of the local rescue service and some local friends. Exercise to operate it without looking at the keybord. Charge it up completey before starting! Test it by calling your own smartphone! Remenber the movie! And mind the fact: There isn't any telephone network in many areas, especially valleys. And there isn't any helicopter at night time!
Last, but not least: ALWAYS take a littel LED-lamp with you. Maybe sudden circumstances prevent you to follow your plans. Do you think, it's a good idea to walk a trail without a light at night? Good night, my friend!
Insurance protection? The best insurance is to be carefully, to follow those minimalistic rules and to abstain from alcohol during the tour as well as the evening before.
