MARIE CABEL ( Marie-Josèphe Dreulette[in Liège) (31 January 1827 – 23 May 1885) Belgian Soprano. She is probably best remembered for having created the role of Philine in Ambroise Thomas' opera Mignon. Cabel first studied voice in Liège with Bouillon, and, her father having died, gave music lessons to help support her mother. Cabel's younger brother Edmond also became a singer and in 1863 created the role of Hylas in Hector Berlioz' Les Troyens. Cabel studied voice in Brussels with Ferdinand Cabel and Louis-Joseph Cabel. In 1847 she gave a concert in Paris and continued her studies at the Paris Conservatory in 1848–1849. Cabel made her operatic debut in Paris at the Théâtre Chateau des Fleurs in 1848, and in 1849 sang the roles of Georgette in Halévy's Le val d'Andorre and Athénaïs in Halévy's Les mousquetaires de la reine at the Opéra-Comique, where she went almost unnoticed. KARL FORMES (Karl Johann Franz Formes) (b. Mülheim am Rhein, 7 August 1815; d. San Francisco, 15 December 1889) German Bass debut in 1842 at the Cologne Opera as Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte. Until 1844 he remained in Cologne, 1844-45 was engaged at the Mannheim court theater and went from there in breach of his contract in 1845 at the Vienna Court Opera (in theaters on Kärntnertor). On 11.25.1847 he sang at the Theater am Kärntnertor in Vienna the Plumkett in the world premiere of the opera 'Martha' by Friedrich von Flotow. active 1848-49 at the Deutsche Oper in Amsterdam. In 1849 he guested at the Drury Lane Theatre London as Sarastro, 1850 at the Covent Garden Opera as Kaspar in the 'Freischütz'. Until 1862 he was often to be found at the Covent Garden Opera, where he in the world premiere of a new version of the Opera 'Faust' by Louis Spohr and 1855 in the British premiere of Meyerbeer's 'Étoile du Nord' also took part in 1852. In 1852 he undertook guest performances in Italy and Spain. In 1853 he sang as guest at the Berlin Court Opera, the Marcel in the 'Huguenots', Kaspar in the 'Freischütz' and Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte. In 1857 he came to Nodamerika where he 1864-67 guest performances and concerts in New York and in other American cities had over the years and occurred at the Opera of Havana for the first time.

She created the roles of Lazarille in Don César de Bazan, Vendredi in Robinson Crusoé, the title part in Fantasio, as well as roles in Lara, Le Capitaine Henriot, Fior d'Aliza, La Petite Fadette, and Piccolino. She also sang Taven in Mireille and Rose Friquet in Les dragons de Villars. She died in Vence, near Nice. Her voice was described as being of a good timbre, with clear diction and phrasing

ANGELO MASINI (b. Nov. 28, 1844, in Terra del Sole, near Forli; d. Sept. 29, 1926. ) Italian tenor. Masini began studying voice with G. Minguzzi in 1862. In 1867 he made his debut in Modena, and later performed in Mantua, Bologna, Venice, and Palermo. He toured many countries (appearing in Russia in 1877). From 1879 to 1903, Masini sang in the Italian Opera during its guest tours in St. Petersburg. He performed lyrical and dramatic parts including Radames in Aïda by Verdi, Almaviva in The Barber of Seville by Rossini, Fernando in La Favorita and Nemorino in L’Elisir d’Amore, both by Donizetti, and Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni. One of the outstanding Italian artists of the 19th century, he continued the tradition of the bel canto school. He left the stage in 1905.

She made frequent guest appearances at the Royal Opera House in London (1859–72), also appearing in Berlin and Saint Petersburg. She retired from the stage in 1885, as Marguerite. After retirement, she taught singing in Paris.

His interpretation of Leporello in Don Giovanni by Mozart remained particularly famous. He was Director of the Opéra de Paris from 1884 to 1891 and from 1893 to 1907. It is mentioned as such in the novel by Gaston Leroux, The Phantom of the Opera . He then became Director of the Conservatory of New York.
