I used to use such a devise when I was a kid, but now the climate is milder, the roads are salted and pedestrian roads are graveled. It's in the interior or in the north you will find most of these nowadays.

When I was a kid there were winters I could have used a spark!
It's a real pity about the salt on the roads, it makes everything look dirty. In our town these days only main roads are salted and the use of salt on pedestrian walkways is forbidden. But so far this winter there wasn't any need at all:-(
