A mile doesn't seem like much but it takes forever when you keep going up false bluffs, dead end brush, incorrect stream crossings, etc. I burned up way too much time and energy here, and starting to get fearful, as I'm on my last day of food and retreat impossible. At one of my most baffled decision points, a deer appeared in the woods. I hunched that it was using a deer path that may mirror the trail. When I went to it, there was a wisp of Baxter trail and I got reset.
