During the early 1970s, when the licensing laws were more strict, there were occasions when trains operating on this steam railway carried beer to dispense to travelling passengers. I think the beer on offer was brewed by Timothy Taylor so it did not have far to travel from brewery to railway station.

There was a very similar situation on a certain North Wales narrow-gauge line, especially on Sundays when the local area was "dry" - once the train was in motion, the buffet stewards could serve alcohol. The last train of the day was often referred to as the "beer" or "pub" special. Guarding it could be problematical, if some passenger imbibed too much happy juice ! Mostly, people just sang and joked.
Only once - in over a decade - did I have to "throw someone off" and that was because they were assaulting anyone that walked past - either pinching or slapping the passing posterior.
