Studying the station layout whilst waiting for our train back to Newcastle.
The station is actually a newly built bay platform, with the double tracks of the Blyth & Tyne heading off under the road bridge towards Lynmouth Power Station [now running on biomass, not coal]

The cut back old platform at Ashington. Also note that it is lower and narrower than required under modern standards.

Crossing Cafe - aka Hickins - is in this end of the Station Building at Alston. This is the upper terminus of the South Tynedale Railway [STR].
Currently [2023] an extremely dog-friendly establishment, that also does a good range of drinks, cakes, snacks and light meals for humans.
We are regular, if not frequent, customers.

Under the canopy on platform 4 at Keighley, with the train almost ready to depart.
That bench has really spindly legs, imo, compared to the usual railway company designs.
The "mind the gap" warning is needed, especially on the curved section of the platform by the water tower.

This bench in Scarborough is reputed to be the longest platform seat in England (456ft). I was there for an Esperanto Kongresso; I had to wait for the opportunity to take this ...
It was restored in 2020.
