ssm - Ransomes Thresher


Ransomes Thresher Drum, number 59374. Built in Ipswich, circa 1950. One of the last made.
These would be taken from field to field and farm to farm ... power would be supplied by a long leather belt to the drive flywheel, initially from a steam traction engine, but in later years something like a Field Marshall could also be used. Note the top section of the conveyor used to load the drum.
Eventually, the process was further developed with a combine harvester, which would do the cutting as well as the threshing. I'm waiting for a combine to do the straw baling ...
