A tracked [skid steer] Ransomes "garden tractor" ... aka Ransomes MG crawler ... I don't know which model, but this is probably MG5 ... The internet suggests that some of these had a career in the RAF as tugs for bomb trailers, otheres worked in market gardens, orchards and even French vineyards This might be quite interesting to drive !

Ransomes Portable. No.36030 single cylinder Built in Ipswich by Ransomes, Sims & Jefferies in1925. [not sure of the power rating, either 4 or 8hp ...] These engines can't be moved under their own power, and are towed by another engine, or a team of heavy horses to where they are to work, sawing wood or thrashing. Some were used in factories to drive overhead line shafts or generators, and were in great demand as a source of stand-by power in wartime.

Ransomes Thresher Drum, number 59374. Built in Ipswich, circa 1950. One of the last made. These would be taken from field to field and farm to farm ... power would be supplied by a long leather belt to the drive flywheel, initially from a steam traction engine, but in later years something like a Field Marshall could also be used. Note the top section of the conveyor used to load the drum. Eventually, the process was further developed with a combine harvester, which would do the cutting as well as the threshing. I'm waiting for a combine to do the straw baling ...
