The Sunday Challenge: drieluik Afgelopen zondag heb ik een lang stuk hardgelopen en onderweg kwam ik voorbij een plek waar ik inspiratie vond voor dit drieluik. Een paar dagen later heb ik dit dan gefotografeerd, hoewel de omstandigheden wel wat anders waren. Wat is het dan? Eigenlijk is het onderwerp saai. Namelijk de onderkant van een betonnen brug. En die vlekken dan, hoor ik je vragen. Dat is water, beschenen door de zon, en wat weerspiegeld wordt op het beton en wat een beetje golft in de wind. In de bewerking heb ik de foto’s zwart-wit gemaakt, en op zijn kop gezet. Dat maakt de groef wat raadselachtiger. Het resultaat is dromerig: vlekkerig, onduidelijk, deels onscherp beeld, voor meerdere uitleggen vatbaar. – – – The Sunday Challenge: triptych Last Sunday, I did a long run and on the way I passed a place where I found inspiration for this triptych. A few days later I photographed it, although the circumstances were somewhat different. So what is it? Actually, the subject is boring. Namely the underside of a concrete bridge. How about those spots, I hear you ask. That is water, shone on by the sun, which is being reflected on the concrete and which ripples a little in the wind. During processing, I made the photos black and white, and turned them upside down. This makes the groove a little more enigmatic. Scavenge Hunt 39/50: standbeeld Oorlogsmonument op de kop van het Java-eiland. Op het Java-eiland was tot 1969 de Stoomvaart Maatschappij Nederland (SMN) gevestigd. Het beeld verbeeldt een zeeman op de uitkijk, gekleed in zijn oliejas en zuidwester. Hij kijkt uit op het Noordzeekanaal. Eronder staan zijn de namen van de oorlogsslachtoffers die voor de SMN werkten. Het beeld werd op 4 mei 1950 onthuld. Nadat de SMN in 1969 hier vertrok, heeft het elders gestaan. On the Java-eiland the Stoomvaart Maatschappij Nederland (SMN, Steamship Company Netherlands or Netherland Line) was housed until 1969. The statue depicts a sailor on the lookout, dressed in his oilskin coat and sou'wester. He looks out over the Noordzeekanaal (North Sea Canal). Beneath it are the names of the war victims who worked for the SMN. The statue was unveiled on 4 May 1950. After the SMN left here in 1969, it stood elsewhere. On 4 May 2003 it was placed back in its original place. The Sunday Challenge: Pasen Eén van de verhalen rond Pasen is de dood van Judas nadat hij Jezus had verraden. Judas ontving 30 zilverstukken voor het verraad van Jezus. Judas zag dat Jezus ter dood veroordeeld werd. Toen kreeg hij spijt dat hij Hem had verraden. Hij bracht de 30 zilverstukken terug naar de leiders van de priesters en de leiders van het volk. 4 Hij riep: "Ik heb verkeerd gedaan! Ik heb een onschuldig mens verraden!" Maar ze zeiden: "Wat kan ons dat schelen! Je moet zelf maar zien wat ervan komt!" 5 Judas gooide de 30 zilverstukken de tempel in. Toen liep hij weg en hing zichzelf op. ‘In gelul kun je niet wonen’ zei vroeger Jan Schaefer, de Amsterdamse wethouder voor woningbouw. Wel, de laatste jaren is er in Amsterdam vooral geluld over woningbouw. Wel werden er veel hotels gebouwd, goed voor toerisme, goed voor congressen, goed voor werkgelegenheid, goed voor inkomen. De huisvesting is echter in het gedrang gekomen. Wachtlijsten voor sociale huur zijn eindeloos, huren, inclusief de sociale, zijn enorm gestegen, huizen zijn alleen nog te koop voor bedrijven of welgestelden die lang niet altijd erin gaan wonen… Wordt het niet eens tijd dat er wordt gebouwd voor de toenemende hoeveelheid mensen in in en rond Amsterdam wonen? Well, in recent years there has been a lot of bullshit about housing in Amsterdam. Many hotels were built, good for tourism, good for conferences, good for employment, good for income. However, housing has been compromised. Waiting lists for social rent are endless, rents, including the social rents, have risen tremendously, houses are only available for companies or wealthy people who are not always going to live in them... The Sunday Challenge: korte sluitertijd Een frisbee vangen in het Oosterpark, gegooid door iemand links buiten beeld. Erachter een ander spel met kegels en erachter het beeld 'Spelende kinderen' van Gerda Rubinstein (1957-1958), dit herinnert ons eraan dat kinderen van elke leeftijd hier onder normale omstandigheden vrij kunnen spelen. There is the ‘Greek Y’, the 25th letter of the alphabet. Used in words like ‘yoghurt’ or ‘type’. Pronunciation is ‘ɛi’ for the letter only, in words it is different. There is also the ‘short EI’. EI is used in words like ‘hei’ and ‘zei’ (heath, said), pronunciation is ‘ɛi’. And the ‘long IJ’. Het woord ‘Pasen’ is via het Latijn en Grieks waarschijnlijk afgeleid van het Hebreeuwse woord ‘Pesach’, het Joodse feest van de uittocht uit Egypte. In de christelijke traditie wordt de wederopstanding van de dood door Jezus gevierd. Andere tradities geven ook een nieuw begin van leven aan: het beschilderen, verstoppen en eten van eieren, paasvuren, de palmpasenstok. Op de foto een bekend dorpsgezicht van Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, met daarop drie godsdienstige stromingen. Links het bewaardershuis van de Joodse begraafplaats Beth Haim (Huis van het Leven). De begraafplaats ligt achter dit huis en het hek dat doorloopt tot de witte ophaalbrug en werd geopend in 1614. De doden zijn hier begraven tot de wederopstanding. De oorspronkelijke ingang bevindt zich aan de Bullewijk daar de lichamen per boot werden aangevoerd. Achter de ophaalbrug (over de Bullewijk) de katholieke St.Urbanuskerk uit 1867, architect is Pierre Cuijpers die ook architect was van het Rijksmuseum en het Centraal Station in Amsterdam. Rechts de protestantse Amstelkerk uit 1775. Gebouwd op de plek waar ooit een kapel stond die gewijd was aan Urbanus. Een van de twee hoofdingangen van de kerk bevindt zich aan de kant van de Amstel daar kerkgang vroeger ook per boot ging. Zowel beide kerken als begraafplaats zijn in gebruik. In the Christian tradition the resurrection of the death by Jesus is celebrated. Other traditions are also indicating the beginning of new life: the painting, hiding and eating of eggs, Easter fires, the Palm Sunday Stick. On the photo a well known village view of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, with on the photo three religious currents. Left the ‘keepers’house of the Jewish cemetary Beth Haim (House of Live). The cemetary is behind the house and the fence which continues until the white drawbridge over the river Bullewijk. It was opened in 1614. The death are burried until resurrection. The original entrance was on the bank of the river Bullewijk as the bodies were transported by boat. Behind the drawbridge the catholic St. Urbanuskerk (1867). Architect was Pierre Cuijpers who also designed the Rijksmuseum and the Centraal Station in Amsterdam. On the right the protestant Amstelkerk from 1775. On this spot where the rivers Amstel and Bullewijk merged, was since ages a chapell dedicated to Urbanus. One of the main entrances of this church is on the side of the river Amstel as many churchgoers arrived by boat. Both catholic and protestant churches as well as the cemetary are still in use. Saturday Self Challenge: Hobby of verzameling Je bekijkt nu mijn grootste verzameling: één van mijn ruim 4000 foto’s op internet. Verder vind ik het leuk om buiten sportief bezig te zijn: trekken, hardlopen, fietsen. Mijn toerfiets zie je dan ook voor de protestantse kerk in Ouderkerk a/d Amstel staan: slechts 12 km langs de Amstel vanuit het centrum van Amsterdam. In de Cuyperspassage van het Centraal Station van Amsterdam. Dit is een tunnel voor voetgangers en fietsers, onder de westkant van het station vanaf de veren (zie twee weken terug) naar het centrum. Eén kant is voor fietsers, de andere kant voor voetgangers. De voetgangerszijde is geheel bekleed met Oud-Hollandse tegeltjes, de muur laat een kunstwerk zien in Delfts blauw, dit gaat van abstracte kunst over in een ouderwets zeegezicht met Oud-Hollandse schepen. De fietserszijde is bekleed met geluidsabsorberend roosters en asfalt. De tunnel is vernoemd naar de bekende architect van het station: Pierre Cuypers. This is a tunnel for pedestrians and cyclists, and it is going under the westernside of the station from the ferries (see challenge two weeks ago) to the centre. One side is for pedestrians, the other for cyclists. The pedestrians side is lined with newly made Old-Dutch tiles, and shows an artwork in Delfts Blauw, this goes from an abstract art to an old-fashioned seaview with Old-Dutch ships. The cyclists side is lined with sound absorbing grid and tarmac. The tunnel is named after the well-known architect of the Station: Pierre Cuypers.
