Northern Pygmy-owl

Another photo taken on the same day as many of my other posted shots of this teeny fist-sized or popcan-sized owl. It's rare to uncommon in Alberta and it has certainly been hiding well ever since I took these photos, which makes me feel very lucky and appreciative that I saw it that day. Interesting that it was November 13th, as 13 is my lucky number. Back in 2006, I saw my very first Long-eared Owl on October 13th. This owl seems to spend all its time staring with its piercing eyes, watching for the slightest movement on the ground - meaning breakfast, lunch or supper, or simply a snack : ) Greatly cropped, as with all my Northern Pygmy-owl shots : )
