Ice crystals growing on snow

This photo looks better on my hard drive than on Flickr, which is very unusual, I find. Interesting. Anyway, these are a few of the small ice crystals that I happened to notice yesterday, growing on top of the snow that had been piled up along the edges of the path in Fish Creek Park. I was walking with friends all morning, so I quickly grabbed a handful of the snow and took a shot or two whenever they stopped to look for birds : ) If I get time, (not today, I have my volunteer shift this afternoon) I want to go back and see if I can find another handful with a clearer or different formation. They seem to be hexagonal in formation - will have to take a search on Google for ice crystal formations : ) I always love to see the tiny ones that look like miniature Christmas trees.
