Oliver Dudley's Market

Oliver Dudley's Market
A little different from the usual storefront, but uploaded for the Vintage Photos Theme Park theme of: SHOP OR STOREFRONT(S).
This is probably in Vermont and probably in the early 1900s.
The sign says 113 Richardson Dressed Beef. Maybe the dressed beef was sold from where they are and the more market part of the market was behind the glass paned door.
By the way, in the part of England where I come from, "market" is only ever used for an outdoor stall market.
We were surprised to find it used for grocery stores (or shops, as we called them) when we emigrated to the States.
Below are a few more examples I found of the theme in my collection.

Smiley Derleth, Luc Reiniche, Frans Schols have particularly liked this photo

That is interesting. I wonder what they used to close it in the evening. Also, being a meat market it must have attracted a lot of flies. I notice the floor is covered with sawdust. I first saw that in a butcher shop my dad used to buy from. It gave the place a unique and pleasing aroma. I guess that used to be a common practice in meat markets.
