The Stiff Upper Lip Training Starts Early

My (American) family think these English stony beach pictures are bizarre and very funny.
"Like Indian fakirs on a bed of nails." my husband says.
They just don't understand the character development that took place when non-comfortable living was the the norm and was understood to be the only sensible way!
I am in the middle with the bonnet. 1955.

Indeed I was surprised to see that in Europe most beaches are so stony, and uncomfortable to lay on,,,,,I had thought that all beaches in the world are like the soft sandy beaches of my country Egypt,,,,,,

The beaches are soft and comfy in the antipodes, Qasem-Amin.

true ,,,only in the antipodes

Well.......... I know there really are sandy beaches in Britain (maybe not the white sand type) - but the funny thing to me is that so many times in photos the family or kids - who COULD have walked the extra few feet to the sand - are pictured sitting, playing or picnicing on the rocks.
Hence, the title!
