Eynsford must be a lovely place if, as you claim, there are no yellow lines or TV aerials!

It has those aplenty. Plus the ubiquitous parked cars, modern lampposts and cables across the sky, and in this scene the walking group I was with, lagging at the tail end. The shot (taken in extreme haste) needed a lot of PhotoShopping. But I kept the white lines because they're not as ugly as the yellow ones, their (as Andy says) leading into the heart of the image, and breaking up what would otherwise be a large expanse of boring tarmacadam.

But such a dim sky on what looks like a bright day.

Just a thought ... and I haven't developed this at all in my own noodle just yet ... but I think you could make some powerful arguements if you posted a 'before and after' pair.
I, personally, would be VERY interested if you would do this!
