I am not a great friend of Fra' Girolamo or his public burning of works of art simply because of their pagan content, although I acknowledge his attempt to curb corruption, in political life and within the church. Saint Francis, one of the few friends of animals within any organized religion, is more to my liking.

Thank you, Rosalyn. Actually, this is a fairly quiet part of town and on a weekday morning there would normally not be that many more people. Tuscany has, for a while now, been declared a "White" (least concern) Region and people walk around pretty freely everywhere. We are only required to wear masks indoors or, when we are outdoors, only if there are many people around. So people went back to enjoying parks and right now the only problem is the heat.

And now we are free to use them... I dont know if it was the same in Italy but here they put red plastic stripes for people not to sit during covid lockdowns...

I believe we had one of the strictest lockdowns (outside of China, that is) as we were the first in Europe to be hit and very little was known back then about how the virus spread and what was necessary to prevent it. There was no need to to mark benches as off limits since we simply could not go to parks or leave the house for any reason other than the absolute essentials (work, food, medicines, assisting someone who was not self sufficient and walking the dog, and that only briefly around the block). Two months of near total isolation indoors. The two or three times I had to go to work for stuff that could not be done remotely, I had to take a long roundabout route on my bike because I could not go through the parks like I normally do.

Nel 1495 Papa Alessandro VI proibì a Savonarola di continuare a predicare. Per un breve periodo si attenne a questo, ma presto denunciò nuovamente gli abusi nella chiesa. All'inizio del febbraio 1497 Savonarola fece marciare per Firenze grandi folle di giovani e bambini ("Fanciulli"), confiscando "in nome di Cristo" tutto ciò che poteva essere interpretato come simbolo della depravazione umana.
