In the realm of Euclidean geometry we can refer to Euclid's 'Elements' 5th Postulate, and 23rd Definition "Parallel straight lines are straight lines which, being in the same plane and being produced indefinitely in both directions, do not meet one another in either direction."
However, if we work in the domain of Projective Geometry, parallel lines meet at a 'Vanishing point' or 'Point at infinity' . Enough said!!!

Yes, this is a real railway!!
A design known as the Lartigue monorail, the idea being that it is cheap to construct, as the ground does not have to be leveled, any irregularities taken up by different heights of the frame. The disadvantages were many, such as the complexity of points and crossings, and the need for mobile steps to be included in the train for passengers to get to the far side of the coaches. Only in Ireland!!
