Hi Tanja,

Huldufólk are elves in Icelandic and Faroese folklore. ... There are many Icelandic folktales about elves and 'hidden people'. In this case, maybe they are not so hidden...

As might be expected there are many big waterfalls in Iceland. The interesting thing is that despite the apparent volume of water, it was quite easy to walk through the outflowing river.
The black ash is of course volcanic.

Interesting thought, but easily disproved. I like Tanja's suggestion of 'Little people', but in reality the waterfall is 60 metres high. However, there are a large number of similar pictures on the internet, all with 'Little People'!!

Skogafoss is perfect seen from below, especially with the "little people" for scale! I guess the real "little people" would have long retreated somewhere else because of the many visitors;-)
