I remember whole swathes of elm trees and in the parks oif South London where I spent many years of my childhood, they were the kings of trees. The tallest, the most extravagently arrayed and the providers of much welcome shade on the hottest of summer days.
Yes. I sorely miss them - hence my delight at coming across this one!

I doubt any replacement would. Young elms seem to get to about 30 feet high and them succumb to Dutch Elm Disease.

So far it's stayed remarkably free of Dutch Elm Disease. Long may it stay that way ... but it's the only one left.

Wow - that does look a very old tree. Do you have any idea as to its age? It will be a shame though to see it go.
