From when I taught at an immersion course in business English for a week in Guadarrama last summer. You may (or may not) be able to see my two students in among the shadows! The Narnia lamp-posts seem to work OK here!

Argynnis adippe, the high brown fritillary, is a large and brightly coloured butterfly of the family Nymphalidae, native to Europe and across the Palearctic to Japan. It is known for being Great Britain's most threatened butterfly and is listed as a vulnerable species under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Wikipedia Seems common enough here, especlally around this buddleia bush in Central Spain.

La Maliciosa is a moderately high Sierra de Guadarrama peak but it often exudes a menace belying its stature, as seen here in shadow between the pillars of the establishment where I am staying (for work only) these two weeks.

I like the colour and the flower and just thought it looked attractive with its shadow against the grey of the wall. That slight pink tinge shows that it is the local granite being used here.,

HFF! A not-so-old 'church' in Guadarrama.

This is a replica of a much earlier romanesque church of the 12th century, totally rebuilt with newer stone between 1899 and 1901. There is nothing 'old' about it! It's not even a church anymore and the maps just say 'tower'. Having said that I think they did rather a good job!

This brings back happy childhood memories of majestic elms in England. Sadly this is the only surviving mature elm in the whole of Madrid province and it is expected to succumb to Dutch Elm Disease soon. But at the moment it lives and provides much joy.

Two weeks here in Guadarrama: immersion classes in Business English, teaching students from the Government´s nuclear power regulators and site inspectors. Mountains left to right: Sierra del Quintanar, Siete Picos, Bola del Mundo and La Maliciosa.
