Long tunnel

Long tunnel
The Madrid metro system abounds with long walkways between lines. This one from Acacias station on line 5 to Embajadores on line 3. Someone mentioned that Paris is even worse. In both Paris and Madrid, what seems like a simple change between lines on the map can actually mean a 10 minute walk!
I last walked here 4 years ago when I had a class at Acacias. Then the walls were crawling with cockroaches and pools of stagnant water lay around everywhere. An unpleasant place. I was pleased to see it had been spruced up since then!

Ugh you do paint a very unpleasant picture of how the metro tunnel system used to be. There's no way I'd have gone down there if there were rats and cockroaches running freely!!!! It's a good thing I don't need to go to either Paris nor Madrid because there's no way I could manage to go from one platform to another if it's as long as this.

Well, they have tried to make the metro system wheelchair friendly, Jenny but they haven't finished modernising some of the older stations. That is work in progress. What astonishes me is that they didn't make a priority for metro station exits near hospitals. The number of times I have seen disabled people struggling up stairs, or wheelchair users having to get off at the next station which has a lift, still amazes me.

If I count my time spent in the corridors of the Parisian metro since I have been using them, I get 6 months, and I think I'm underestimating reality. But these are not the worst months of my life: there are a lot of things going on, a lot of meetings in the subway, are there not? ;-)

If you think that I average 10 metro trips a day (travelling between classes all over Madrid) then I have probably done the same in a shorter span of time, Eric!
