Roman Road

Roman Road
Its position on this steep slope perhaps indicates two things.
Firstly, rain water rushes down here contributing to erosion.
Secondly, people found the stones too useful in situ to help with tackling the slope and so they were less tempted than on the flatter sections to take the stones for their own use.

Many thanks, Roger. I tried to think of a Rolling Stones Sight and Sound but gave up. I may have more inspiration tomorrow and add one then!

Time has made the surfaces very uneven, I'd be afraid to sprain my ankle;-)

Walkers need to be moderately carfeul on this short steep stretch (the rest of the route is flat), cyclists usually (but not always) dismount and horses don't seem to mind!
The chief bugbear (and the cause of more erosion) is the motor cross or rallying (I forget the correct term for mountain rough-terrain motor-cycling) brigade and a very noisy bugbear at that! I'm pretty sure it's illegal here but even so they come and ruin the pleasure of others!

Lovely to look at and photograph, but probably not brilliant for walking on, especially in the wet!

I really like this one Andy.............the light has brought out the shapes of the stones beautifully. I like the low perspective too. Have another star!

Hi Keith, The low perspective is an illusion. I'm just standing at the bottom of a slope!
I've walked here in the wet and it's a pleasure to walk on the stones, out of the mud! The flatter sections can be a struggle when the path is flooded. This is one walk I would do in wellies if it had rained (if I had any here in Spain - mine are in Cornwall of course where they are generally in more frequent use!)

looks like you are correct water must run down the side of the stones when there is a storm and that makes them stand out clearly
