Kepler Cascades

I've decided to get back to our tour of Yellowstone National Park. We left the tour at the junction of the south entrance road and the lower loop of the main road and are now proceeding from that point clockwise and to the northwest long the lower loop. That section of road takes us from the south entrance across the Continental Divide twice and through Craig Pass to the area of Old Faithful. There are a few picnic areas and scenic vistas along that road but no accessible thermal areas and little to see compared with other areas of the park. One of the few necessary stops is at the Kepler Cascades, shown here in a photo from one of our autumn 2019 stops in Yellowstone. These cascades can be viewed from an observation deck but are not accessible on foot.

I also enjoyed reading your "tour information" :D Can't deny that you make me excited with wanting to go with every image you share. Nice that you've gotten back to these wonderful pictures!
Heh...didn't get around to posting today...too busy doing too much stuff. There is a special event in the game I'm playing and well, I'm trying to get a wierd spiny crab-monstery mount...and other stuff...I can't help myself, it's such fun! :D But there are other things too!
Found some more rocks to toss in the tumbler when I can, it's such an interesting time to look around for cool rocks, and they are all over the place here, as this was once a river bed judging by all of the round stones jumbled with sharp-edged ones. I got some rock and mineral books of Oregon/Washington area and also a beginner rockhounding book that goes into geology and elements and stuff...I've really been enjoying the education. I used to love science classes when I was young so it's great to revisit this. I have more books coming too--you and I both know how important cross-referencing is so I'll have a few, not just one. And a book on the elemental table with pictures and all kinds of interesting stuff about every element so I can get a better understanding on all of that too. It's so fascinating to me, what a curious monkey I am!
Took the rocks out of the two chambers today--they're both on the first step because I decided to sort out the progress of my previous tumblings...one chamber was about to go to the last step (4), the other was going to step 2 and I realized that I needed to carefully evaluate each rock. Ended up sorting them into containers with most getting kicked back to step one again. That was a good decision--looking at the rocks today, almost all of them are ready to go to the next step. The other step one chamber is obviously rougher and I'm going to keep them at step one for a few more days. It's really an interesting process to learn. I have to figure out how smooth is acceptable for the next step but I guess it will just take some practice to be able to see when they're ready to go. That was the same thing when I turn pens...the sanding of the pens has to be done carefully...if you don't sand out a scratch and move to the next finer grit, you'll just have to go back and resand with the coarser sandpaper!
Re: my Hall's Desert Parsley picture...you sure do know how to make me fill the room with a glow! :) It feels especially wonderful when it's a picture I'm extremely pleased with. I'm so happy you liked it so much...the details of the floret petals was just right and I got the bokeh exactly how I wanted it...isn't it just wonderful when we get just what we're after in an image?! :) Very satisfying, and even more so when I get a nod from someone whose photography that I highly admire! :) And as for the species, it's always interesting how they can be subtly different as the distance increases between them. I also find the hybridization to be so fascinating but what a stinker for identification. Seems like when it comes to plants and rocks, and plenty of animals too, this blending of species/types makes for monstrous bears when it comes to trying to identify them! Evolution in action--at least for the living types! :D When it comes to rocks and minerals, quartz + various chemicals = agates, tiger's eye, amethyst, onyx and many more! CRAZY!
Re: pictures around your property...it really can be a grand bit of fun to "collect" all of the flowers where you live...but I'll tell you, it's next to impossible to document them all! When it's springtime there are so many that the probability that you've captured images of every one... well, I don't know how possible it is, ESP when you realize how many bitty species there are and others with very short flowering windows. And omg...you have to keep going out every day because there will be new ones and others you've missed. It's fun but wow...what a challenge! I never did "finish" my project. I have a whole bunch of pictures with species I didn't get around to processing and I am sure that there are plenty of flowers that I haven't discovered on our property but well, like you say, there's just not enough time for all of the interesting projects we'd like to do! :)
Gosh, your upcoming trip sounds fantastic!! :) I'm really envious, but heh...we'll be on our own adventure too! We haven't even started planning it...Steve still needs to finish up his work on the trailer and well, we're still healing from our ordeal. It's hard to be motivated too, when it's so darn COLD. Steve's working on a tiling project but he's got to work in our freezing cold shop to use the tile saw and I don't blame him one bit for not having the courage to brave the bitter temperatures. It's fine in the trailer but working in the shop...it's just too miserable. So anyway, we'll get it all figured out and by the time it's dry enough that we can get the trailer down the driveway safely we should have our plans in order too! :) Happily, both of us are getting more and more excited for our upcoming adventures--always a very good sign that we're back on track! :)
All of your culinary fare makes me want to rush over and wolf everything down! :D We've been enjoying some truly marvelous creamy tomato soup which we toss roast chicken into from Costco, and with it, lovely cheesy biscuits made from this stuff called "Carb-Quik", and it's just like Bisquick, but without the carbs, or at least, a lot less... not sure how they pulled it off but we're crazy about it! Tomorrow...Steve's going to make....ROAST DUCK!! HOORAY!!! We'd originally planned to have duck for Christmas but when Steve saw goose available, we thought it would be grand to give that a try. We had the duck in the freezer and Steve's been pining for it, so tomorrow will be the day to roast it, yay!!
Ok, I'm falling asleep, but I really enjoyed your latest entry and wanted to give you my two cents before I went to bed...make that a dollar. Heh! :D
