Firehole River, Upper Geyser Basin

Firehole River, Upper Geyser Basin
The Firehole River runs through the southwest part of Yellowstone National Park and through the geyser basins there. This is the river in the Upper Geyser Basin with one of the hydrothermal features that line the river. I am not sure of the name of this feature but think it is Lime Kiln Spring.

Another trio of heart-pounding gorgeousness, Ron! I love every image but I'm especially fond of your second picture with the wonderful island and contrast between dead and live conifers in the background and the beautiful green framing of trees, along with the leading line of both the river and the dead trees in the foreground which pull me, dancing, right through your image. Glorious! The threesome have me just all that more desirous to go! :)

I spent 15 minutes after doing my tromps up and down the hill, wandering around the edge of our seasonal pond. It's an absolute TROVE of lovely rocks, and when I finally dragged myself away, I'd gotten to the point of picking up a rock and trying to add it to the pile but it would just fall off onto the ground, drat it all! INTO MY POCKET WITH YOU...along with the other rocks in my pocket. LOL, Nancy will surely giggle guiltily at that description, heh. :)

So I was going to add onto my message last night, but here's another presentation AND I see that you left another fine letter for me so I'll move to this picture for my weighty pile of words for you! :)

Oh, before I forget, I linked ystrdys picture to Steve last night and he totally enjoyed your show, as well as a bunch of other pictures he looked at! :)

Re: posting more pictures from my tumbler, heh...yes I will certainly be doing that for sure! We're excited to see how they turn out with our more careful picking and choosing of what moves on and what needs more time. It's a long process but meh--it's passive for the most part!

I do enjoy that you've confessed a love for rocks yourself and I'm not surprised. With an eye for beauty and all things fascinating, of course you've found rocks that cannot help but be brought home! :) Sounds like you collect the larger specimens though...bookends? Wow!! Ya know, you could always get a rock tumbler for YOU! Heh, but of course sometimes it's just too much bother and not worth doing unless both of you are interested. Steve is interested enough that he likes to look for rocks sometimes and he'll help me look through the rocks to grade them, and of course he can't wait to see how they look from one step to the next. I can see his interest actually rising which is fun! In fact, yesterday on the way back from a trip to town, he agreed to stop off at Touvelle State Park, on the Rogue River, just to take a peek for interesting rocks! We spent 20 minutes looking around and I found a bunch of pretty nice rocks but nothing truly spectacular. Steve found a couple of nice ones too and he enjoyed the experience though I have to admit the rocks were pretty meh--I would bet they have just been totally picked through, that spot being so accessible. But I did love that he had fun! :) He also looks forward to going to places just for rockhounding! :)

ROFLMAO, your list of collections has me with the guilty giggle...I have had my share of collections...my biggest is my model horse figurine collection, which I stopped adding onto a zillion years ago but omg, the job to sell them all is horribly daunting (I've got hundreds of them). Magic the Gathering cards, my turned pens, audio books, oh and when I was up to the age of about 20 or so, I collected nature, horse, and animal books, I also collected reference pictures of horses in a gamut of colors...binders of those...sheesh. And I adore games that have collecting...my World of Warcraft collection of different mounts is over 100 (a feat unto itself), nearly a thousand with "battle pets" (like pokemon), and companion pets...and my current game RIFT, I am collecting some other stuff...*facepalm* Yeah...me and collections... *shakes head*

Your inflatable kayak sounds like lots of fun and will be great for those times when you're on a trip and would like to get out on the water. :) We used to have an inflatable bigger boat--a small zodiac--which we took out on the SF Bay once and made the careful trek under the GG Bridge before immediately returning...too small of a boat to be doing that kind of tom-foolery but we did it anyway! Happy to get back to less-choppy water, yikes!

Gonna peek at another picture to reply to your latest post so that's it for this one! :)
