White Bog Orchid

These White Bog Orchids were photographed at Brooks Memorial State Park near Goldendale, Washington. We spent part of a day there hiking and looking for wildflowers and orchids as we traveled south to the Columbia River gorge.

Have a nice weekend
I do apologize for not being on ipernity for a couple of days...I have a fun but deeply involved task to come up with lots of fun things for us to do while we are on our Vancouver Island trip. Steve does the hard part--finding places to stay and making the reservations--but he isn't so keen on finding activities and stuff to do. That's where I come in! It does take so so so much time though, to find hike, cycling, fishing, and events, etc to see, get the directions and so forth... However, it's such an all-consuming project that I find that switching gears is difficult to switch to photography, writing, and of course, checking in with you and all the other folks on ipernity.
Oh!! I went to read your comment to refer back to and I see that it's grown into a War & Peace bookstop, holy TOLEDO! :D I am going to read all of your new writing and, as it's literally after midnight, I'll reply tomorrow! :) Such fun...ok, off I go, I want to read your book! :D
BWAH HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAH!!!!! OMG I can't stop laughing at the story of your miserable trip on Assateague!!! I need to go to sleep but I'm crying from laughter...you poor dears!!! LOLOL, I'm sorry for my giddyness but the mental pictures I've made are better than a warner brothers cartoon! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Ok, *wiping my eyes*...I'm going to sleep now...will write tomorrow and be more respectful about the horrendous conditions...but...bwah....hah... hahahahahahahahahahahaha, no I can't do it!!! You guys are all Daffy Ducks and Elmer Fudds and Bugs Bunny!! Covered with mosquitoes!! *Janet falls asleep giggling at your story...*
Ok, I'm finally back! I went on a delightful 10-mile ride this morning and it was just so wonderful and beautiful without being too hot. Steve changed the tires out on my Trek mountain bike for road tires that have just enough tread for managing minor gravel and the ride-feel was fantastic! First ride since we've been home and I was overjoyed to find that all of the riding we did on our trip (including the 10 mile Diamond Lake ride but particularly at L.L. Stub with 3 rides at 22 miles and many others at variable distances) has me in fine shape! HOORAY! :) How nice to arrive home feeling energized instead of exhausted. :) Even though it was just 10 miles, it's a perfect indicator for me and I could easily handle my longer 17-19-mile rides, how GRAND! Hmmm...maybe tomorrow...or ok I'll be sane...Sunday! :)
Ron, I will tell you that picturing the scenes in my head of mosquitoes chasing you guys into tents and the hullabaloo of it all...I admit to giggling until I fell asleep! :D It is nice to share a hellish situation and hysterical when viewed from another perspective, no matter how horrendous it was at the time. Thank you so much for the story!
I will say though that it does remind me of a time when Steve and I went to Belize many years ago and one of the draws was staying on Ambergris Cay for scuba diving. One afternoon we explored the rustic little island on foot and at one point we decided to walk across a small field to get to another road.
By the time we got to the other side I was scratching my ankles. Looking down, there were DOZENS and DOZENS of little bugs on me, feasting in great merriment. "Bloody cocktail?" "Why yes, I'll have three!" I got the ?sand fleas? off but it didn't matter. I was increasingly miserable as the moments passed, to the point of being driven nearly mad with itching. We didn't even have bug stuff with us. I wasn't able to sleep and so miserable I was in tears...the next day we headed to the mainland for the rest of our adventure and found some local bug bite ointment that only helped a little, but it was something at least. I would continue to be miserable until a week after we got home, wow was I allergic to those horrible insects! I have always wished, when thinking about that incident, that I knew about using hot water to kill off the histamines...I would have been fine. What a bummer to learn too late for a terrible situation!
Back to your post to me!
I also had to giggle heartily at the vision of Nancy racing around the car...it's put me into another fit of snickers! I expect you loved it too...we silly girls try lots of stunts and it's great fun to entertain our sniggering boys who point and laugh with such disrespect! :D
Yes, it is very nice for me to identify you with Scott and how I would have loved for him to have matured and grown content and happy with his life. Ah well. Hope he's in a better place.
Steve will be tickled to hear what you said about him. Yes, he really is a jack of all trades and master of so much...it doesn't hurt that he's a genius and his forte is figuring out how to make things work. In fact, I probably told you but his claim to fame was being largely responsible for the movie, "Terminator 2", getting the Academy Award for Special Effects! Long before I met him, he did miniature special effects when he lived in L.A. When I learned that he did the effects for my all-time cult favorite, "Tremors", I was just SMITTEN! :) He also worked on Batman Returns, Darkman, and a bunch of others. He was able to figure out how to make the craziest, most difficult effects turn out brilliantly. As much as he loved working on these movies, it killed his marriage at the time. Then there was a movie industry strike and he couldn't find work and as time passed, he eventually found himself moving to the Bay Area and changing his field to more computer-based, graphical interface and presentation stuff. I would eventually meet him when he was working for Charles Schwabb as a graphic designer and interface guy.
They say that men "marry their mothers" and women "marry their fathers". Couldn't be more true for us. I insisted on finding a guy who was as smart as my genius father and as handy and clever too. Steve is all of that and more. Hilariously, my dad totally fell in love with Steve when they met and couldn't get enough of him. Gosh, I wonder why? Mirror, meet dad and Steve! Hahhaahahah... (naturally there are zillions of differences but I'd be a fool to not recognize the father-husband link!) (Oh, and yeah, I'm so much like Steve's mom...it's amazing. If only I could have met her...)
Re: your trailers: Yeah, it's universal: the quality of trailers absolutely REEKS. Steve gets a lot of enjoyment out of making crap into something really nice, and we appreciate every upgrade tremendously. I'm glad too, that you guys are content and satisfied with your van. Steve and I are so happy that we dodged a major bullet of thinking we were going to jump into the RV game in the deep end, trying to afford a monster without even having taken one out on the road at all. Have learned from so many people that people who do that often find themselves in such scary situations they come back from the first trip and never go out again. As well, people will often buy something that's just too big. In our case, our rig has some space configuration issues and a few things that really have to be addressed by changing rigs. But it's been a perfect rig for learning everything we have. If we ever go to Europe to travel around, we'll definitely be downsizing to a van and it's certainly the right choice for the tiny streets there. Re: space, our house...when we got it we loved how roomy it was (enough for a family of 5+), now it's just so OVERHUGE! We would be quite happy living in an RV with its compact size and everything within reach, along with everything in its own place. :)
Thanks for the notes about Mt. Hood, we'll make sure to spend a nice amount of time there-- even though we knew we wanted to already, it's nice to learn from you that it really is a cool place to spend time. I'll keep Mt. Adams in mind as well!
Finally, I hope the concert was very nice! :) We have a place nearby in Jacksonville called the Britt Festival, and all summer long they have outdoor concerts...also the RoxyAnn Theater in Medford has a stream of inside shows as well. But they are all on the pricey side and we are happily out on a million and one adventures away from town so won't be around to even consider them. It certainly is nice once in a while though for a special treat! :)
Ok, it's noon and time for lunchies! :) Have a lovely day and say hello to Nancy!
