Tapertip Onion

I posted the white form of this species a few days ago. This is the purple form, photographed in Brooks Memorial State Park near Goldenale, Washington.

Re: your reply post...
How cool to see a heron close enough that you could spot what it was hunting and wolfing down! Totally awesome! I really like herons and egrets and hope for timing to capture some of them with good detail. :)
I'm getting terribly excited about our Vancouver Island trip...it seems that there are going to be endless opportunities to take wonderful pictures of so many things, including bucket-list birds like Bald Eagles and King Fishers, among many others. Here's hoping!!
Wow, you are so darn industrious, putting up rain gutter--but it's better to put it up in preparation instead of after you're forced to do it from the out-of-control water!
"..green curry and lemon souffles..." HEY HEY!! I will come to your house and take all of your nommies if you keep that up! :D :D Sounds lovely...and looking such lemon goodies up on the internet yields plenty of keto alternatives, yay! :D
I do have to say that I am sidling away from your espresso - fruity drink concoctions with a wary eyes...I believe you when you say they are tasty but for myself, combining anything other than creamy things to espresso is just not in the cards. Heh...I remember as a youngster being crazy about coffee-alcohol drinks of all kinds...yum yum yum. Heh...had to look it up, and what do you know? There is a keto recipe for Bailey's Irish Cream! *rolls around purring* But I don't drink these days, it's just not a good combo for me unfortunately. But your gin & tonic ideas sound great, I'll admit! Lately the idea of some gorgeous Black & Tans has been on my mind as we're watching a super British series called Endeavor and the lead drinks these delicious looking dark ales...yum! And yo ho ho! :D
Pumpkin is a wonderful companion, that's for sure. Entertaining, fun, affectionate, silly, great sense of humor, but she does require a bit of work--we are careful not to go on too much about her because Caiques are such fun and we actually don't want to encourage people to get them. They're an "advanced" bird because they can be so aggressive and push their boundaries all their life. Folks who don't realize this let them get away with a few things and suddenly they've got a nasty biter who is a problem to deal with, instead of a darling dream of a bird who merely needs to be redirected when they try something they shouldn't. Clever, quite smart, and persistent, Caiques will quickly get out of hand unless their human companion is always aware of the testing they do. I made plenty of mistakes with my first Caique but once I realized the problems I'd allowed, I was slowly able to work them out--though Squeaky was not impressed that she couldn't get away with the bad behavior she'd begun to exhibit. My second Caique was handled perfectly from day one and she is an adored favorite with my ex and his wife. Not doubt--Peep was my dearest love and so hard to part with, but the Sun Conure we had was bonded to my ex and to Peep, and I wouldn't dream of separating them, though it totally broke my heart to leave her behind after I met Steve. One of the coolest things about Caiques is that they are "multi-bonding" birds, which means that a couple or a family can develop a deep and loving bond with a Caique, whereas other birds like most conures, are "single-bonding" birds and choose their favorite...and spurning all others to the point of violent attack in many cases. Steve had always wanted a loving, cool relationship with a parrot and had tried several times in the past, unsuccessfully. After we met and his dog of 14 yrs passed away, he expressed a desire to get a Caique. I didn't press him--I wanted any idea of a parrot to be his because they are such a big commitment. From the very first day we met Pumpkin, Steve has been head-over-heels in love with Pumpkin, and she loves us both equally and yet, our relationships are different and super awesome. Couldn't possibly imagine a better bird to own. Caiques are not known for their ability to speak--some do ok, most, no-- but they have incredible personalities that far exceed any speaking parlor tricks. Heh...sorry I went on so long about her, it's hard not to. :)
Re: standing in ANY line. Gives me the HIVES. I really do loathe theme parks of any kind with their endless lines. We'll never go to such a place on a weekend, NOT A CHANCE.
Reminds me of the customs line to and from France...worst lines EVER in my life. Complete with shrieking babies. AND Steve and I were not dealing with anything well at that time, what a total nightmare...I'm really not sure how we will handle such lines in the future...ear plugs? Xanex? A machete? It's simply incredible how horrendous the entire international travel affair has become.
You do have to love the elevation trick for losing the mind-bending swarms of people that can be found at parks though. Seems like it doesn't matter HOW crazy a park can be, all you need to do is go on a trail that goes UP and suddenly, it's as if you're the only one in the whole park! LOVELY TRICK! And even if it doesn't work perfectly, the folks on the trail are all part of the "in-crowd" and it's fine! :)
Wow...ANOTHER fool setting off fireworks? OMG. It is astonishing the lack of brain cells in so many. *sigh*...well, I'm glad you didn't go looking for them, they might have mistaken you as a buck in hunting season. You're not allowed to be a statistic, sir! Steve gets his dander up about idiots too though...it may be infuriating but those fools would likely not stop to think before mixing it up with you guys...it's not worth it.
Wow...freaky story about the tree falling, I'm really glad that it didn't flatten the fence OR take down power lines, or a worse outcome. YIKES.
Ok, back to research, hope you have a lovely Sunday! :)
(I've been going on my 45 min morning ride every day and it's just so lovely and comfortable, beating the heat and still enjoying the gorgeous countryside!)
