Chia

Chia
I'm posting a few more wildflowers from Joshua Tree National Park today, this a plant called Chia, Salvia columbariae, photographed along the trail to Wall Street Mill, an old gold mining mill.

Oh my, would you just look at these beauties! All of them deserve to be showcased as macro masterpieces! Each is so lovely and wonderfully different. I wonder if the chia is related to the type that we eat? Steve and I chow on chia seeds regularly in our porridge recipe and it's in our energy bars too. We love them! (BTW, we have beautiful Fiddleneck flowers on our property, it's a fabulous macro subject...here's a search on my stream for them... www.ipernity.com/search/photo?w=290645&q=fiddleneck ....it's obvious when I got my 5D MkII if you look at the picture thumbnails, lol :D

I can't wait to find a Chia flower, they are really unique and wonderful. The other inset shows flowers that remind me of some I've seen but I can't place them. Gorgeous color and shape though.

Oh, I'm so glad you enjoyed the perfume bottle pictures! The main image blew me away when I discovered it the first time and I'm happy you feel the same way. Like, did I actually take that picture? COOL! I'll go with it! :D

Re: perfume...yeah, started falling out of love with the reek of perfume/cologne so many years ago. Can't stand it. Not surprised you guys feel the same way. We are all "zero footprint" people and the last thing I want to do is announce myself with stink that lingers. OMG...have to mention the worst of them all...patchouli oil...it's odd that the origin is actually deadnettle because I've always called it "weasel-ass"...one whiff of the stuff has me wrinkling my nose in disgust and I cannot refrain from glaring in the direction of the scent's origin. It is so FOUL...I totally resent anyone who would wear such a stench which permeates everything and lingers forever. Of course, any overblown perfume/cologne bothers me to no end, but it's Weasel Ass that makes me the most hurl-istic! I simply do not understand HOW ANYONE would think that smells good? It boggles the mind.

Re: discovering gems in our pictures...it really IS like a present each time we discover one that turned out well! The feeling we get when we see these pictures is wonderful and so lucky! :)

A bag of stolen mail. Wow...that's just awful. *shakes head* Sorry that you had to find it but of course it was nice that you returned it to the post office. You have to wonder about people. *sigh*

No snow upcoming for us but today it's been drizzly and should rain during the day if the forecast is right. After that it won't be raining for a week. I hope you get some fun snowy shots!

Finally, I'm happy you enjoyed the seed pod pictures...they are such fun to find. So tiny you can hardly see them, and when you get macros, you see the incredible details! Total show-stoppers. I try to look for these when I can but they're awfully hard to see unless you're looking for them. :)

Did some research on Chia and the kind usually sold is from Salvia hispanica, but this also produces an edible seed.

A lovely macro and a great series, Ron. The name intrigued me, but I see Janet has already asked whether this relates to the food of that name.

We can find a bread here made with "chia chia seeds" ... Wonder if it has something to do with this plant ....
Have a lovely week end, Ron.
