Mediocalcar decoratum

Mediocalcar decoratum
I posted a picture of another species in this genus, Mediocalcar versteegii, a few days ago. Here is Mediocalcar decoratum, also from the New Guinea highlands and a delightful miniature orchid. The plant is much more compact than the other species I posted and is very easy to grow and flower, though it prefers cool temperatures and high humidity. The flowers come from the top of tiny and fat little pseuobulbs or stems with a fan of three of four leaves at the top, visible in the photo. The new growths develop at the top of the previous growths and so the plant rambles and become a mat of growths and flowers. The inset photo shows the whole plant, but the photos may be misleading since the flowers are only 0.5 cm and the growths 1 cm tall. The plant shown is only about 15 cm across.
