I've always missed those little extra windows we called wings. Some people called them wind-wings. Discontinued, I guess, to save money or because they didn't look streamlined.

I, too, liked having wind wings in cars (we called them side vents). In Florida they were particularly good for keeping the car cool without having the noise of open windows. I did a quick search on 'wind wings' and immediately found the article linked below that addresses why they disappeared. Basically it was the increase in cars with AC (now almost all) but also styling and aerodynamics. I also remember that as cars aged, they tended to not fit well and caused lots of wind noise.
