This is large blanket of very thick cotton. I bought it in Senegal from a handicraft trader I was acquainted with. Dakar, 1986.

I can understand that! My late father used to make rugs, knit clothes and make leather bags, wallets etc. He learned to do it whilst he was in the Navy to keep him occupied while he was away from home.

Interesting, Keith! My grandfather knitted his own socks and sewed shirts. My dad made some hooked rugs when he was working in Norway. Grandpa was a bachelor rancher in his youth. He would be snowed in during the winter, so it was entertainment as well as a necessity. My dad had the same idea as your dad. :-) I don't know what happened to the rug he gave me...
