What sad story / tragedy lies behind this sombre plaque?

Hard to say. I wish I knew something about the old practice of not naming babies before burying them. I suppose it was partly the custom, no longer practiced much in the US, of waiting for a period of time after the birth before choosing a name. By today's standards it seems disrespectful and uncaring.

No ! No! that's my first reaction every time I see a tomb of a baby, anywhere:either rich , with angels and flowers on his last house or poor , neglected ,unnamed tombs.But, then I stop there and pray,: even though I'm pretty an atheist. And above all I try to think of him / her..no more words.
