als Kind bekamen wir (ich bin Zwilling) morgens eine Kleinigkeit und abends auch noch mal, und die Geburtstagsfeier war am 25.12., wobei wir da später von den anderen Kindern die merkwürdigsten Geschenke bekamen, z.B. Taschentücher ...

The word has been borrowed by English, where as a noun it means No or nothing and as a verb it means deny: "They nixed our proposal." All meanings work here, I think.
