Von Augsburg sprach man zur Zeit der Renaissance als "Goldene und reichste Stadt der Welt". Die Qualitätsarbeiten der Handwerker haben Reichtum in die Stadt gebracht. Noch heute sind die besten Arbeiten in Museen von Augsburger Herkunft. "Made in Augsburg" war eine Marke, egal ob es sich um Goldschmiedearbeiten, Waffen, Schreinerarbeiten, Uhren oder Bücher handelte. Was aus Augsburg kam, war gut. Im alten Handwerkerviertel befinden sich noch heute viele kleine Handwerkerläden, Schmuckgeschäfte, kleine Boutiquen und Restaurants - ein Bummel durch das Viertel lohnt sich und ist gemütlicher, als in einem Einkaufzentrum!

In the old artisan district are still many small craft shops, jewelry shops, small boutiques and restaurants - a stroll through the quarter worthwhile and is more homey than in a mall!
